Innovation, science and technical training: A centre of excellence

The Power Centre, our Global Research and Development Centre, drives our industry-leading innovations for commercial pest control.

Opened in 2017, the £2 million investment is designed to bring the company’s scientific and technical expertise, as well as our renowned training academy under one roof. These combined facilities give Rentokil industry-leading capabilities to enhance our leadership in pest control and demonstrate our commitment to protecting homes and businesses across the world.

Research, development and the scientific expertise that supports these activities have been fundamental to our business since the founding of Rentokil in 1925.

World-class research facilities for pest control innovation

Our Global Research and Development centre has been at the forefront of pest control innovation and technology; creating, prototyping and testing the latest pest control solutions to support businesses across the globe. Home to one of the largest collections of pest insects in Europe, The Power Centre features:

Culture rooms

Controlled environments to better understanding of bed bugs and other blood feeding pests

Fly rooms

Research rooms where flies are released to test application and efficacy of fly control solutions

Rodent pens

Rat and mice behaviour are monitored for the development of effective detection tools

Field tests

Testing innovations in real world environments as part of the regulatory approval process

Commercial pest control innovations in the pipeline

From digital pest control to non-toxic solutions, innovation is at the core of our business. Our team of pest control experts are made up of PhD qualified scientists with specialisms across zoology and entomology, regulatory and product development specialists. Collaborating with local technical experts and field technicians, they work tirelessly to refine pest identifcation, monitoring and control techniques to support diverse business sectors.

New advances in biopesticides

The development of new organic-compound solutions that can repel or destroy pests. A chemical-free solution with zero mammalian toxicity which sees higher levels of efficacy and reduced environmental impact.

A pest control solution currently in development looks at the use of fungal spores which attaches to the external body surface of cockroaches. These spores then germinate and bore through the outer shell to reach the insects’ body cavity, where they multiply and eventually kill the insect.

Non-toxic heat treatments

Enhancing rudimentary heat treatments with modern technology to eliminate pest through dehydration and damage to essential physiological processes.

Heat treatments effectively kills all life stages of insects and avoids the risk of insects developing resilience to chemicals.
