Rentokil Initial plc, with partners PA Consulting and Google, won the Best Internet of Things (IoT) Project of the Year 2016, awarded by the BCS, The Chartered Institute of IT. The annual BCS & Computing UK IT Industry Awards are the major awards event in the UK IT industry and a platform for the entire profession to celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence.
The award was presented for the development and deployment of Rentokil’s connected pest control system, PestConnect and CommandCentre, the interface for managing the data sent from the connected devices, customer data and reports made by Rentokil technicians worldwide.
In collaboration with PA Consulting and Google, a cloud-based Internet of Things platform was developed to collect real-time data and send instant alerts of pest activity detected by connected pest control traps. The technology enabled monitoring of a customer’s business 24/7 and allowing visibility for rapid pest control response as well as Big Data analytics to gain new insights on local, regional and global levels.
This connected technology event in our digital pest control solutions can be used to remotely identify emerging pest problems to inform customers around potential damaging issues and also precisely where it originated. Using the data provided by our connected devices we are able to upgrade our servicing plans to suit the customer’s needs and apply a targeted solution.
Rentokil Initial plc beat six other finalists in the category. The UK IT Industry Awards are one of the longest established and most prestigious awards of its kind, focusing on the contribution of individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of IoT in the past 12 months.
