Warmer weather condition brought on by the El Nino phenomenon encourages a faster breeding and maturation cycles of the Aedes mosquito population. This in turn caused a sudden boom in the mosquito population in tropical Indonesia. Further with the country’s either rain or sun weather types, dormant mosquito eggs are able to hatch well at the right time with such favorable conditions. A tiny amount of water is all that is needed for these dormant eggs to become real alive Aedes mosquitoes!
For example, collected rain in roof gutters, drains, cracks and dents, potted plants or flower trays and any pails or containers that are not reversed if unused, potentially could breed mosquitoes in this stagnant water. Did you know? These mosquitoes can lay about 100 eggs each time. They lie dormant in dry conditions for up to about 9 months, after which they can hatch if exposed to favourable conditions, i.e. water and food. They don't like to travel far and most mosquitoes remain within a 1 mile radius of their breeding site.
These eggs go through a lifecycle to mature into an adult within an average of 10 days. These adult mosquitoes either fly to neighbouring areas or turn to be a nuisance to public by sucking our blood to obtain protein, which causes red bumps on our skin, leading to itch and allergies, or disrupt our daily activities be it at home or at work with its indoor and outdoor presence.
Interesting Info: both Anopheles and Culex mosquitoes bites more at night, which potentially disturb residents resting at home or dinners in a restaurant, while Aedes mosquitoes bites more at dawn, and tend to disrupt residents’ during morning activities or employees at work.
At every stage of mosquito, it can place us at risks of transmitting diseases caused by mosquitoes, such as Aedes Mosquitoes, a carrier for Dengue Fever, Anopheles Mosquitoes, a carrier for Malaria and Culex Mosquitoes, a carrier for Japanese B Encephalitis. It is important to ensure adequate and complete protection from mosquito breeding stage to adult maturation stage.
