Rentokil Initial Hong Kong proudly elevated its commitment to the environment by sponsoring and participating in the MacLehose Trail Clean-Up on January 6, 2024. This significant initiative, part of DAC Kowloon RFC's Kowloon Cares community program, resonated deeply with our values of sustainability and community service.
The event called upon volunteers to revitalize the 10 diverse sections of the MacLehose Trail, a gem in the crown of Hong Kong's natural heritage. Rentokil Initial employees were among the enthusiastic participants who dedicated their day to removing debris and ensuring the trail's beauty was preserved for future generations.
Equipped with the necessary tools, our teams, under the guidance of seasoned leaders, demonstrated exemplary teamwork and a shared passion for the environment. This clean-up operation was a vivid illustration of how collective action could make significant strides in environmental conservation. Nearly 100kgs of rubbish was taken off the trail, making it ready for this weekend's HK100 races.
In line with our philosophy of responsible business practices, Rentokil Initial's support helped facilitate the event's logistics, providing volunteers with the appropriate equipment and an event t-shirt as a memento of their contribution.
The day concluded with a gathering that allowed participants to connect and reflect on the tangible difference they had made. These moments of solidarity and achievement are central to the culture of Rentokil Initial, fostering a sense of pride and responsibility among our team members.
For further details on the clean-up and how to participate in future environmental initiatives, we invite the community to visit Bigfourhk or the Kowloon Cares Programme website. Rentokil Initial remains dedicated to leading by example in corporate environmental responsibility and hopes to inspire continued collaboration for the health and vitality of Hong Kong's natural environments.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we’ve pledged to only work with suppliers that align with our environmental values. We will also continue to establish strong relationships with environmental charities and communities across the world to support their work in fighting the climate crisis.
In 2018, we announced a new partnership with Cool Earth. Since our work with the charity began, we've supported communities to protect 42,000 ha of rainforest, over 20 million trees, and over 8 million tonnes of carbon stores. We've also funded the installation of seven 9,000-litre rainwater-harvesting tanks to provide clean drinking water during droughts and supported biodiversity officers in Wabumari to help community members protect forest wildlife.
Our commitment is to reach net zero carbon emissions from our operations by 2040.
Action on climate change is key to embed our purpose to Protect People, Enhance Lives and Preserve the Planet.
We are continuing to develop non-toxic and eco-friendly pest control solutions.
