Chemical management

Chemical termite management involves applying a specialised liquid termiticide into the soil around the foundations of a building to create a continuous treated zone. This field application establishes a subterranean line of defence using two different methods depending on the ground layout:

 

Where soil or pavers abut the foundations, a trench is dug 150mm wide and to a depth of 50mm below the top of the foundation to allow a thorough application of the termiticide.

A non-repellent termiticide foam is injected directly into active termite workings during the early stage of a management plan to bring the infestation under control. Foam is relatively easy to use, acts faster than baits, and has the major operational advantage of being completely unaffected by moisture inside wall cavities.

Differentiating termiticide formulations

The treated zone operates under one  distinct chemical actions:

These choices rely on the termite detecting the presence of the product in the soil and repelling them away from the structure. While these products tend to be more cost-effective, establishing perfect, unbroken coverage is absolutely critical to success.

These formulations are undetectable by the insect, so foraging workers will naturally enter the treated zone. They pick up small doses of the chemical in the soil and can potentially transfer it to other termites within the colony. These chemicals are a premium option but are significantly more forgiving during application than repellent barriers.

In-ground monitored systems

For properties where trenching or drilling is not ideal, or for owners seeking a different proactive approach, in-ground termite stations utilise the natural foraging habits of the insects to intercept them before they ever reach the building.

  • System Setup: In-ground stations are placed securely in the soil approximately 3 metres apart around the entire perimeter of the structure.
  • The Interception Strategy: As termites randomly forage through the soil seeking food sources, they discover and enter the station to begin feeding.

Our perimeter defence pathways utilise two operational options:

  • Monitor and Baiting: The stations initially contain only non-chemical timber inserts. The active termiticide bait is only introduced into the unit when live termites are formally detected inside. These stations are inspected by a professional every 3 months during the monitoring phase and every 2 to 4 weeks once active baiting begins.
  • Always Active: The stations are constantly loaded with active, highly palatable termiticide bait from day one. This ensures a colony-managing growth regulator is immediately accessible to foraging termites the moment they find the capsule.
