ATP Testing or ATP hygiene monitoring provides a measurement of the direct risks resulting from high levels of microorganisms plus the indirect risks resulting from organic residues that can provide a source of nutrients to microorganisms.
ATP is a chemical compound found in all living cells, including bacteria, food debris, yeast and mold. Bioluminescence is a chemical reaction produces light. ATP bioluminescence occurs when ATP from a sample comes into contact with luciferase, an enzyme found in fireflies, and luciferin, a substrate. The amount of light emitted in this reaction is proportional to the amount of ATP detected in a sample. Providing a useful way to monitor the effectiveness of sanitation/disinfection programs.
In the real world, dirt is NOT homogenously distributed on surfaces after cleaning. Dirt is invisible and randomly distributed in small spots on surfaces. Will the ATP system find it?
ATP devices are utilized to detect the presence of bacteria and organic / food residues on surfaces. ATP has been incorporated as a key monitoring parameter for the food, beverage and healthcare industries. It is essential that these devices provide precise and consistent readings so that the hygiene practices of these industries can be accurately evaluated.
ATP tests can be used to:
Control biological treatment reactors
Guide biocide dosing programs
Determine drinking water cleanliness
Manage fermentation processes
Assess soil activity
Determine corrosion / deposit process type
Measure equipment or product sanitation
