Fleas and ticks are a common problem at home, especially for those with pets. Even if you do not own any pet, you may still have flea or tick problems if your house was previously occupied by pet owners. Fleas and ticks depend on blood from a host in order to survive hence most usually travelled into the house through pets. Fleas may also be carried on other mammals, such as rabbits and rats.

As parasites, the greatest concern about their presence in your home or business premises comes from their bites. Although their bites are not painful, they can result in an uncomfortable itch or rash. Your pets could also develop allergies to flea saliva which causes severe irritation and itchiness.

Protect pets from fleas

Even with the best care It is difficult to completely prevent the risk of your dog or cat getting fleas.

When your pet has fleas It is possible that it will scratch more often or attempt to bite the fleas in its fur. A flea comb and frequent care may be enough to prevent fleas from forming. But your veterinarian or pet store will often offer treatments to protect your pet from fleas.

Consult your veterinarian if you notice any signs of irritation, such as red skin or thin patches on your pet's skin.

How to deal with fleas?

If you have pets at home Preventing cat fleas, dog fleas or human fleas from building up in carpets and bedding is essential. Below are some basic tips from the Rentokil experts.

  • Cleaning carpets and furnishings where your pet sleeps with a vacuum to remove fleas and flea eggs It is recommended to use the highest strength that preserves textiles.
  • Take care of disposing of dust in the vacuum cleaner. Should be disposed of in a bag that can be closed completely. Because the fleas may still be alive and can escape from the trash.
  • Shake or hit the carpet and your pet's bedding outside the house, which will drop fleas and their eggs.
  • Wash pet bedding weekly at above 50°C to kill fleas.
  • Be careful when moving bedding, carpets, etc. to avoid spreading flea eggs.
  • Consider placing your pet's bed in an area without carpet, such as on wooden floors, flooring, and not near people's beds.

Mild flea infestation problems can be managed by spraying an insecticide spray or flea killer spray in the flea infestation area. Flea infestations that are clearly spreading around the home may require tick removal services. punch from the experts
