Purify vs Sterilise: What’s the Difference?

With the current COVID-19 situation, we have seen a lot of air purifiers being rolled out into the market. Each model and brand has similar or varying properties depending on how they are marketed to the world. But did you know that most of these so-called air purifiers aren’t really effective in the crisis that we are facing today?

Most leading air purifiers boast of their super-effective properties against tiny PM 2.5 dust particles and other allergens in the air with up to 99.95% efficacy. Yes, all of these claims are true because they use HEPA filters that are made from very delicate fibreglass and are great for filtering out tiny particles.

However, if you think that 99.95% efficacy in an air purifier is enough to keep you safe from COVID-19, we regret to inform you that you might be wrong.

Purify vs Sterilise: 99.95% is not everything

Efficacy levels of air purifiers against viruses and bacteria are known as log reduction. They are divided into six levels as below.

Log reduction level

Bacteria and virus kill rate

Log 1

90%

Log 2

99%

Log 3

99.9%

Log 4

99.99%

Log 5

99.999%

Log 6

99.9999%

Log 3 indicates the level of “sanitisation” that is generally found in most hand sanitisers and soaps. Most leading air purifiers are up to 99.95% effective (log 4) which is considered to be the level of purification.

But when it comes to log 6, you can see that it has an efficacy of 99.9999% — easily the best of them all. And believe it or not, we have now brought in this level of log reduction to the market. Let us introduce you to VIRUSKILLERTM

VIRUSKILLERTM: The Future of Air Hygiene

VIRUSKILLERTM can kill up to 99.9999% of airborne viruses and bacteria

On paper, the difference between 99.95% and 99.9999% might not seem like a lot - in fact, just a few decimal points apart. But in practical comparison, we can tell you that they are miles apart!

Have a look at the following image. You might be able to see the difference more clearly.

The above image takes the example of 1 million viruses in the air. If an air purifier has up to 99.95% or log 4 efficacy, it still leaves 500 virus particles behind.

Now, compare it with the 99.9999% or log 6 efficacy. We can see that most viruses have been completely eliminated, leaving only one behind. This greatly lowers the risk of airborne infection. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. The VIRUSKILLERTM  has a lot more for you to discover.

VIRUSKILLERTM: Real-time protection

VIRUSKILLERTM brings a lot more to the table than just HEPA filters. All units are equipped with a reactor chamber where Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) filters react to oncoming Ultraviolet (UVC) light in a process called Photocatalytic Oxidation. This process enables the VIRUSKILLERTM to capture and kill 99.9999% of coronavirus, bacteria, fungi, mould, VOCs, small particles and other airborne viruses.

4 Key difference between VIRUSKILLER™ and other air purifiers:

Kills 99.9999% of viruses and bacteria

Air purifiers can filter out tiny particle and capture some bacteria but cannot instantly kill viruses.

Log 6 Efficacy

Kills 99.9999% of airborne viruses, bacteria, VOCs and more.

Single Air Pass

VIRUSKILLER™ is designed to be a one-stop solution to your air hygiene problems. With a 99.9999% single air pass kill rate, they not only filter out particles but also help kill airborne bacteria and viruses as small as 0.1 μm.

Airflow Control

VIRUSKILLER™ can create a laminar airflow that blocks out impure air from breathing zones.

There are 3 models of the VIRUSKILLERTM for you to choose from:

  • Hextio covers areas up to 20 sq.m. - suitable for families and homes with children and elderly people.
