In this episode, we explore how technology and Big Data can be used to generate actionable insights to improve food safety in the agriculture and logistics and warehousing sectors.

In the agriculture sector the main challenge is to minimise crop losses. Data shows that rodents are the most common pests that cause damage to crops. We developed technology for one of our customers to survey crops for rodents and collect data that predicts where crop damage will occur. Data insights then allowed us to implement a non-toxic pest control solution for the customer to prevent rodents from damaging and contaminating a valuable crop.

In the logistics and warehousing sector, the key challenge is to ensure food passes safely through the supply chain to the consumer. Data recorded by technicians shows that the main sources of infestations are rodents and flying insects and that building integrity is the major cause. By using a deeper analysis of all our data, we can now predict when pest infestations are most likely to occur.

In automated warehouses, connected technology can also be used to monitor pests without relying on human presence to check traps or bait boxes. Our smart IoT-enabled devices can automatically detect pests and alert technicians so they can take rapid action, and inform customers via an online portal. This means we can efficiently monitor pests 24/7 without disrupting operations or putting our technicians in danger from machinery and vehicles.
