For business owners, reputation is everything. A business works hard over time to build a positive image in the community, but this can all change instantly with the emergence of social media. Just one customer complaint could spiral into major backlash and significant financial consequences for your business.

Rodent facts

  • In just a year, a single pair of rodents can grow to a population of 400-700
  • They are expert climbers, jumpers and swimmers
  • Rodents are nocturnal and will build their nests in dark places such as wall cavities, under floors, roof voids and close to areas where they can scavenge for food and water
  • They can all carry diseases such as Salmonella, E.Coli and Tuberculosis by leaving infected urine and faeces in places that people come in contact with
  • Rodents can have teeth harder than iron and steel and will gnaw on wood, plastic, cables and other hard materials that can be a fire hazard

  • Hygiene and housekeeping should be a key focus in the prevention of rodent infestation
  • Crates and boxes should be stacked a distance from the wall, so you can check what’s behind them
  • Seal up any holes in a building to keep rodents out
  • Ensure all pipe-work is in good working order, looking after and cleaning drains regularly
  • It is best to have regular inspections – don’t just work on a reactive basis

Having rodents on your business site can cause immediate loss of customer and worker trust. Consequences and risks are often more severe for businesses selling food, or businesses with large storage space. If you spot a rodent on your premises, it is vital to seek professional help immediately.
