Going out for a romantic evening meal anytime soon? Want to check what little extra’s you may be getting free of charge in with your salad, stir-fry or smoothie?
Scores on the Doors is a new (well I say new but its been around since December) initiative focussed on all establishments which serve or prepare food.
As more and more local councils go on-line with this initiative you will soon be able to check all venue names or postcodes for their “Scores on the Doors” rating, ranging from zero (I wouldn’t suggest you eat there if you have a sensitive digestive system!) to five (you’re safe to dine!) stars. It basically reflects hygiene ratings for these businesses. So a regular and effective integrated pest control management programme is a very strong element of this rating system.
It really brings the whole “Waiter there’s a fly in my soup” joke to home actually. Much as I said in my Flies & Me post, I really don’t like sitting down for a meal in a venue when I hear the buzz of an electric zapper fly killer unit, unfortunately the type of fly control used is not listed so its a lovely surprise (!) when I sit down.

I recently recommended several restaurants in my hometown of Crawley to my friends… then I happened to be browsing through the Scores on the Doors website and noticed they all scored zero on their hygiene ratings.
I had to humbly revoke those recommendations and had a sudden urge to scrub my tongue with a wire brush.
