We all know the scene: you walk into your living room or back garden and see something you’re not sure you want to be there. If it’s cute, you might buy a humane trap and release it back into the wild. If it’s butt “bug”-ugly, you will probably scream and run away, getting someone more macho than you (like, say, a fluffy kitten) to take care of it.
But how do you know which pests you can deal with on your own, and which are so repulsive you cannot bear to imagine getting close enough to remove them yourself and need to call in da professionals?
Helpfully, we’ve come up with the first in a series of graphs that can help you sort this out. Then, when confronted with a pest, you can find where on the graph YOU feel it best fits, using our 100% not-subjective, universally accurate* positioning of various pests as guidlines.
So, what pests have you seen recently, and where would you put them on the scale of cuddly versus deadly?
*Yeh right!

fantastic post! Will use it should I ever come across a situation where I do not know what to do. In my place there are monkeys who invade flats from time to time, guess I will place them somewhere near to cuddly and deadly. Man, they have big teeth
Interesting post Danusia – I guess I’d evaluate cute or cuddly (to some extent) based on where the creature is found. Yes, the mice I just found in my kitchen are adorable when they’re outside, but they’re deplorable when they’re in my kitchen. Fortunately for me, I know a good pest control kitchen to send these mice back where they belong – outside!
Absolutely agree with Lynn – rats and mice can both be cute and cuddly but nevertheless i would not want one running around in my house. Am surprised to see honey bees under cuddly – has anyone ever tried to cuddle a honey bee? i think size may be a bit of an issue. However, that killer rabbit certainly looks deadly enough…deadlier than most of the rabbits i see in the countryside – which, may i add, do not look deadly.
Love the drawing
I had a rabbit like that once-so I think I might call you guys regardless.
I love that rabbit from Monty Python. You need to watch out for rabbits like that.
