Do Fleas Bite In Three's?

iStock_000002325215XSmall_heatingThe higher the heat, the greater the bites??

Well, I had never really thought about the fact that by turning on the heating in my home (and I did this very early on in November last year), to keep myself nice and cosy, I could be bringing previously dormant fleas or other dodgy biting insects in my home “to life”, so to speak.

But apparently the great winter/spring heating switch-on has an effect on fleas. I had thought it rather strange that I keep on getting the odd random single bites on my face and arm recently and yet I haven’t seen any pests flying around!

Dog fleaFleas tend to be more of a problem in homes with pets (sadly, we have no pets), but they tend to bite people on the legs and ankles (again, not in my case) and usually produce 2 or 3 bites in a row (but this was not the case for me). So, I am left to wonder what is biting me? It clearly isn’t fleas.

Nevertheless I should find out how to get rid of fleas, and ants and acne as I don’t want them to add to my bite collection.

It seems I will need to up the ante on my housekeeping chores to fight these biting insects, at just the time when all I want to do is sit back and enjoy the warmth of my central heating!!

Aedes mosquitoSo I know that its female mosquitoes that bite for example, but do some pests prefer to bite females more than males? It may sound like a stupid question, but my partner hasn’t had any insect bites – they only seem to be going for me!

All suggestions / responses welcome! Whatever the response though, it is certainly true what they (and we) seem to say pretty often…… you can never escape pest control.

What you are seeing is your body’s reaction to the flea bite – the angry red lump. It might be that your partner is being bitten, his body is just not reacting in the same way. Men: sometimes they just aren’t sensitive.

Male/Female response differences have been noticed anecdotally in bed bugs:

Also, researchers at the University of Kentucky found that those over the age of 65 are less likely to have a bite reactions to bed bugs

so you do think it is fleas then? even though i only get one single bite – had it on my face once – and then nothing again for weeks? and we don’t have pets in the house… and i vacuum regurlarly. would be interested to hear your thoughts. thanks.

Well, flea bites are more frequent around the legs and ankles. The theory being they jump onto you from carpets, bite, and the swelling comes up over night.

Bed bugs, purely as an example, feed whilst you are in bed without standing on you and can easily last over a week without feeding. Check the bed frame and headboard for blood spotting…? Diagnoses like this are pretty close to impossible over the internet, you can only give a best guess.

We get calls like this from time to time & I’m not saying this is your answer but only a possibility.

You said you only turned the heat up in November and then started getting bites (face & arm)–it’s possible that dust has built up in your air ducts and the particles were blown out by the rush of air–dust particles can and do pick up a static charge and when they land on a person it gives them a very small biting sensation.

Perhaps where you sit and read there is a vent near by which blows the air towards you and you feel the ‘bites’ on the unprotected parts of your body.

Just a thought–skin so soft is a great product to alleviate the problem or you could get your ducts cleaned.

(this is assuming you don’t have heat regiters instead)

I have to say i recently started having the same problems. My boyfriend came back from a camping trip and it seems like ever since then the bites and itch started. I have them on my arms, legs, near ankles and waistline. we have no pets, and seems like im the only one getting bit. My boyfriend nor my son has any bites on them. Is it fleas…all i know is that they itch, and there seems to be a puncture hole in the middle of my red bump. well im off to reclean , and to go buy products to hopefully get rid of the problem.
